Why "Just Relax and It’ll Happen" is the Worst TTC Advice Ever

If you’ve ever struggled to get pregnant, you’ve probably heard it:

👉 “Just relax and it’ll happen.”
👉 “Stop stressing, and you’ll get pregnant.”
👉 “Maybe you’re trying too hard.”

This advice is not only useless—it’s also just wrong. While stress can impact fertility to some degree, telling someone to “just relax” oversimplifies a complex process that involves hormones, nutrient levels, ovulation timing, and overall reproductive health.

So let’s set the record straight: Fertility isn’t just about stress—it’s about science.

The Real Reasons You Might Be Struggling to Conceive

Instead of blaming stress, let’s talk about real factors that could be affecting your ability to get pregnant:

1. Nutrient Deficiencies (because prenatals matter before pregnancy, too!)

Most people don’t realize that fertility starts with proper nutrition—and many women are already low in key nutrients before they even start trying. Start taking a high-quality prenatal before TTC—not just after you see a positive test.

2. Ovulation Problems

“Relaxing” won’t magically make you ovulate. If your timing is off—or if you’re not ovulating regularly—you need to track ovulation properly.

❌ Don't just rely on period-tracking apps (they’re just estimates!)
❌ Don't use ovulation test strips without confirming ovulation

Know that stress, diet, and health conditions can delay ovulation and track basal body temperature (BBT) or check progesterone levels to confirm ovulation.

3. Hormonal Imbalances (because cortisol isn’t the only hormone that matters)

Stress alone doesn’t cause infertility—but hormonal imbalances do. Conditions like PCOS, thyroid disorders, and low progesterone can make it harder to conceive. A simple blood test can reveal if your hormones need a little extra support.

🚨 Signs your hormones are off:
⚠️ Irregular periods (too short, too long, or missing altogether)
⚠️ Extreme PMS symptoms (mood swings, fatigue, breast tenderness)
⚠️ Mid-cycle spotting (can signal progesterone issues)
